When
you score a school record 23 goals in 25 games, including 14 tallies
in 14 Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division games, as Carlmont’s
Andrea Carrara did this past season, it leaves many to wonder. Andrea
Carrara: You can’t stop her, you can only hope to! The Daily Journal
girls soccer player of the year was that good, leading the team
to its first ever CCS championship and sixth consecutive league
title. The Scots forward also has a team high 10 assists. The U
of P bound Carrara always seemed to be in the right place at the
right time. Her speed, athleticism and soccer instincts were undeniable,
and her penchant for making plays always put opponents on the defensive.
Not bad coming from a player who didn’t make the varsity as a sophomore.
Needing an extra year to get stronger and refined, Carrara kept
on growing, from 5 foot 3 as a freshman to her current 5 foot 9
frame, and her game did as well. Despite the individual accolades,
Carrara said nothing could beat the feeling of beating Santa Teresa
4-0 in the CCS Division 1 championship match. “As a senior, you
want to win the last game and go out on top”, she said. “It’s a
great feeling to have .”

Dominic
Nolfi, grandson of Adrian Nolfi, was a recipient of the Peninsula
Italian American Social Club Scholarship award in 1996.
After
high school graduation he was awarded a full scholarship by the
Boston Conservatory of Music for four years, graduating in 2000.
During his undergraduate years he performed as a tenor soloist on
several occasions with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Shortly after
graduating, he was awarded the lead in a new musical, Pokemon Live,
opening in Radio Musical Hall, and touring the country for one year.
He moved on to the lead in Grease, performing for two years in Germany.
He returned to Los Angeles where he did bit parts in TV production
and TV commercials. In the summer of 2004 he appeared in a new musical,
based on the lives of Frankie Valli and his composer. The show closed
in January of 2005 and immediately a New York Producer bought the
rights to show it in New York City.
We
just learned yesterday that he is to report for rehearsals in June,
and the show will open on Broadway in August.
