NOVEMBER 2004 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

A great big thanks to Dave Parenti for chairing this year’s golf tournament for the Club on September 20. Everyone enjoyed the tournament and the dinner afterwards at the PIASC so much that they asked me to ask you if you will chair it again next year. Thank you, Dave.

A big thank you also to Adriano Undorte, chairman, and to the Bruno Freschet family for their support of the beautiful Bruno Freschet Memorial Bocce Tournament at Beresford Park on September 26. Thank you also to all the participants. Congratulations to the winners.

Finally, I cannot thank the chairpersons enough for a beautiful day of festivities on Saturday, October 9. First, was our Columbus Day Italian-American Celebration at the old Courthouse in Redwood City, chaired by our popular leader, Terry Anderlini. This was preceded the Saturday before by a wonderful bocce tournament at Red Morton Park in Redwood City. Congratulations to the winning Redwood City team, and to all who participated, especially to George and Marge Lencioni, who ran the tournament. Thank you to Terry and to your wonderful committee for your hard work in putting on this great celebration of our glorious Italian heritage.

Our Genovese Night Dinner-Dance held on the evening of October 9 at the PIASC was a continuation of the day’s celebration, and a huge success. I want to thank chairpersons Alice and Ubaldo Siboldi, and Elmo DeNevi, and their entire committee for doing such a great job. Special thanks to Alice and Ubaldo for making the delicious ravioli filling and sauce, which were served as part of the dinner.

I encourage your attendance and participation at the next general dinner meeting on November 9. As you know, the PIASC administration consists of nine (9) board members, four (4) executive officers, three (3) trustees, a parliamentarian, three (3) guards, and a historian. The term for all the officers, one trustee, and three board members expires at the end of each year, at which time the Club must fill these positions. The applicants for the vacant positions are recommended by the Search Committee (John Chiappe, chairman), approved by the board in place, and elected by the membership. Nominations are also made by the members at the general meeting in November. Elections are held in December. I hope many of you will consider the opportunity to become involved in the affairs of the PIASC and indicate your interest in being nominated.

Finally, I hope you plan on getting your tickets early for our Sicilian Night Dinner-Dance on Saturday, November 13. Chaired by Romolo and Angela Cappello, this event is one of the year’s most popular events. You will enjoy not only wonderful hors d’oeuvres, special antipasto, salad, pasta, a delicious entree, special dessert by none other than Romolo and Angela, but also bottled wine, and beautiful dancing music by Italica (formerly called New Espresso Band).

Sinceri Auguri, Emil Bagneschi
