In
the early 1980’s a few women who were wives of Club members began
holding some “women only” dinners at the Club. Around 1986 these
women put on a Christmas Boutique with the aim of raising funds
to help purchase a chandelier for the main hall. They worked very
hard, donating their time and material, to create beautiful decorations
such as wreaths, table arrangements, candle arrangements, etc. Later,
the Club hosted a dinner in which most of the decorations were sold,
with the leftovers raffled later. Between the sales from the boutique
and the raffle, $7,000 was raised.
Because
of a controversy over the purchase, a decision was never made. This
year, the Peninsula Italian American Social Club Board and Officers
revisited the issue and with membership approval decided to purchase
a large beautiful chandelier. The Peninsula Italian American Social
Club would like to thank those women who have worked so hard to
raise the $7,000. We trust that they and all members are pleased
with our beautiful chandelier.
