SEPTEMBER 2004 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

President’s corner

I want to thank chairperson David Fanucchi and his committee for a very successful Western Night at the PIASC on Saturday, August 13. The turnout was great, and the food, games, and the Ron Zucca Band were wonderful. Congratulations and thanks to everyone for a job well done.

After our Club Picnic next Sunday, August 29, look for Toscana Night on Saturday, September 11. Chairpersons Angelo and Angie Fanucchi state that this will indeed be a beautiful event. The scene is set for “Una Bella Serata Alla Vendemmia Toscana”. The menu features Prime Rib or Chicken Da Vinci, the price includes bottled wine and special dessert, and the dancing music will be provided by the exciting Tom Serafini’s Espresso Five Band.

For the PIASC golfers and their friends, our Golf Tournament and Awards Dinner will be on Monday, September 20. Chairman, Dave Parenti, and I wish great success to all the players and a fun day for all.

Chairman Terry Anderlini invites you to a very exciting and fun-filled day on Saturday, October 9. Please join us for the Columbus Day Italian-American Heritage Celebration in the Old Courthouse in Redwood City, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM on that day. As in recent past years, the San Mateo County History Museum will be the venue for celebrating our heritage, featuring Italian music, celebrity bocce, hors d’oeuvres, wine, and soft drinks. Several things will be different this year. First, the bocce tournament playoffs will take place the week before, on October 2, rather than on the same day as the celebration. On October 9, during the celebration, the winners of the tournament will be recognized and prizes will be distributed to them. Secondly, there will be singing of traditional Italian songs in the beautiful atrium by the popular and charismatic Italian singer, Pasquale Esposito. Third, the attendees can enjoy looking at the wonderful display of photos of prominent San Mateo County families, taken before 1940. In addition, we will honor a number of Italians who are residents of San Mateo County and are over 100 years of age.

In the evening (Saturday, October 9) you can continue celebrating your Italian heritage by attending our Genovese Night Dinner-Dance at the PIASC. Like last year, we will have a fantastic dinner, coupled with dancing and fun, presented by chairpersons Dave and Alice Siboldi and co-chairperson Elmo De Nevi. Please request your tickets early for both events.

Sinceri Auguri, Emil Bagneschi
