SUMMER ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL

Peninsula Italian American Social Club member Tullio Bertini has organized an Italian film festival for the months of June, July and August. The films will be shown in our new cultural room upstairs directly above the front bar on certain Monday evenings starting at 7 PM. The films will be in Italian with English subtitles; everyone is welcome, and admission is free.

The films for August are:

Monday, August 4

PANE E TULIPANI ***

Lighthearted drama of a woman's liberation, as a suburban housewife and mother, stranded while on vacation, finds a new rewarding life in exotic Venice. Sweet-natured wish-fulfillment fantasy manages to convince, thanks to the story's detail and the performance of Licia Maglietta. Year 2000 film, 114 minutes. PG-13.

Monday, August 11,

MALENA **

Set in 1941 Sicily about an earthy, stunningly beautiful woman whose husband has gone off to war and who must suffer the brunt of small town sexism, jealousy and gossip -- one of her ardent admirers is an imaginative 13-year-old boy. Rated R, 94 minutes.

Monday, August 18,

ACQUA E SAPONE **

All work and no play may make Sandy a dull girl, unless she can escape from the clutches of her over-protective mother. The opportunity comes when Sandy is sent on a three-month modeling assignment in Rome. Her mother thinks Sandy needs a strict tutor, but complications arise when a handsome janitor impersonated Sandy's real teacher, a priest. Rated PG, 100 minutes.

Films start at 7 PM. Entrance will be from the small door located to the right of the main entrance. Door will close at 7:30 PM. After the movie, if people are interested in discussing the film, in either in Italian or English, they may stay a while.
