Special Thanks: I want to recognize and thank Agnese and Peter
Marcheschi and Renato and Lubiana Cernobori, as well as their committees,
for the marvelous jobs they did as chairpersons of our New Year
Eve and Valentine Dinner-Dances, respectively. Both events
were sold-out events and both could not have been more elegant or
more perfect in every way. Thank you very much to everyone
who assisted with these events. You are great supporters of
the Club and we appreciate all you do for us. Carnevale Night: I
would like to invite you to join us for our Carnevale Night Extravaganza
on Saturday, March 1, chaired by Marlene and Dino Belluomini.
A lot of preparation has been going into this event, and we think
it will be fabulous. It should be a night to remember, as
we will have a special menu, special bottled wine, special music,
and special decorations. Some people will come dressed in
costumes, and prizes will be awarded for the best costume, but it
is not necessary that you come dressed in a costume. We look
forward to having a lot of fun and enjoying each other’s company.
RAY COLOMBO: A few weeks ago we lost our brother, Ray Colombo.
Ray was born
in San Luis Obispo, California. When he was only a year and a half,
his parents brought him to Italy. Ray returned to the United
States at the age of 18, settling down here on the Peninsula, where
he lived for the rest of his life. Ray was a successful business
owner for 42 years, a property owner, and volunteer for many organizations.
In 1980 Ray was Vice President of the PSC, in 1981 he was President,
and in 1982 he was a member of the Board of Directors. Then, from
1983 through 1997 (15 consecutive years) he was President again-serving
a total of 16 years as President. While Ray was President, our membership
grew from 290 to 650. He was instrumental in the major remodeling
and renovation of the PSC facilities. In addition, during his term,
a number of changes were made to the bylaws to improve the Club,
including allowing women to become members.
He was a member of the PSC for 33 years. Ray gave of his time and
energy to numerous organizations-too numerous to mention here. His
efforts did not go unnoticed, though, as in 1986 he was awarded
the designation of "Cavaliere Della Repubblica" by the
Italian
Government for his work on behalf of Italian-Americans in San Mateo
County. He was also designated "Man of the Year" by PARCA
in 1993 and by the American Citizens Club of South San Francisco
in 1994. Ray was a great leader and a person who could easily motivate
people to do good deeds for their fellow brothers or for the good
of the community as a whole. We, the members of the PAISC,
will remember Ray for his kindness to everyone and for his many
years of hard work for the Club, his dedication,
direction, and outstanding leadership that he provided as President
of the Club. Ray was married to his lovely wife, Mary, for 59 years.
Besides Mary, he leaves behind their beautiful daughter, Carol,
son-in-law Mike, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two
brothers, three sisters, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
What an enviable life Ray had and what a legacy he leaves behind.
He truly set a great example for his family and for all of us who
knew him. We will miss Ray very much and for many of us he will
remain in our memory forever. We ex-tend to Mary, Carol, and the
rest of Ray’s family our heartfelt wishes for peace, strength, and
courage as they mourn their great loss.
Emil Bagneschi, President
